Springing without
warning from crack-war-torn Los Angeles, N.W.A. made their neighborhood
infamous with STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON. The group--which included Ice
Cube, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E--was among the first on the West Coast to
address street-oriented, sociopolitical themes in a confrontational
manner. Though N.W.A. proved too volatile to hold together, its
individual members went on to become the biggest names in West Coast
hip-hop
